Norm Hann Expeditions specializes in offering transformative, remote standup paddleboard and eco charter trips to the Great Bear Rainforest. As coastal expedition leader with 17 years of guiding experience he has introduced thousands of people from around the world to the Great Bear Rainforest. Norm is a passionate teacher and a Paddle Canada instructor trainer and defender of the Great Bear Rainforest. His adventures and conservation expeditions have been featured in SBC Surf, Explore, Sierra, Standup Paddle Magazine, SUP the Mag, and British Columbia Magazine.

Norm’s work in the Great Bear Rainforest as a guide, educator and coach led to a special relationship with the community of Hartley Bay. In 2006 he was adopted into the Gitga’at First Nation and given the name T’aam Laan which means “Steersman of the Canoe.”

Norm has stood up for the Great Bear Rainforest and fought to keep oil tankers off our coastline. It started with his Standup4Greatbear Expedition in 2010 and then most recently as part of the award winning Stand film project which highlighted his 350km sup expedition along the coast of Haida Gwaii.

Join us for one of our incredible trips to the Great Bear Rainforest to experience the amazing wildlife, rich First Nations culture and an opportunity to explore one of the most life changing environments in the world.

“From intimate experiences with feeding Humpback whales from our expedition boat to quiet moments on our paddle boards visiting with the residents of the inner tidal zone – the eagles, ravens, wolves and salmon. It was like having first class tickets and front row seats to a show you’d only ever heard about, Norm shares his love for this coastal area with passion and knowledge that made for unforgettable moments we will cherish and share for a lifetime.”  Kristy Wright, Vancouver, B.C.

Yukon River Quest -It’s On!

So I have signed up to race the 717 km Yukon River Quest. This is the first year the organizers have opened up the race to standup paddleboards. I was excited when I got an email from my SUP Yukon buddy Stu Knaack asking me if I would be interested in competing and before the […]

SUP the Mag: Water Warriors

FROM THE MAG | WATER WARRIORS | NORM HANN PADDLERS MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE ECOSYSTEM By Eugene Buchanan Funny, but at birth, we’re not given much actual substance. Sure we receive a few treasures, like our parents and their DNA, if we’re lucky, and siblings and grandmas and grandpas. But mostly, we’re given things. […]

The multiple award winning film STAND, presented by Quiksilver Waterman, takes viewers on a journey through the waters of British Columbia’s west coast.

Under threat by the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline and tanker route is a coastline of immense beauty, pristine ecosystems, and a way of life rich in culture and history.

Through the efforts of expedition stand-up paddler Norm Hann, an aboriginal high school class building their own stand-up paddleboards as a form of protest, and the powerful surfing of iconic west coast native Raph Bruhwiler, the diversity of people, landscape and wildlife that would be affected by an oil spill is articulated. STAND takes you to the core of the issue and unfurls the soul of B.C.’s west coast one paddle stroke at a time.
